Mile High Fire Protection is a Denver-based fire alarm design and consulting firm. We serve contractors, fire protection firms, and project teams across Colorado who need accurate permit drawings, independent design review, calculation packages, and technical documentation — produced by people who have built these systems in the field.
Mile High Fire Protection is not a monitoring company. We do not perform inspections, service calls, or system installations. We are a fire alarm design and consulting firm — and that focus is intentional.
Fire alarm design is a technical discipline that requires more than drafting software and a copy of NFPA 72. It requires an understanding of how systems are actually built: how panels are wired, how NAC circuits behave under load, how AHJs interpret code requirements, and how field conditions affect what gets drawn on paper. That understanding comes from experience in the field — not just at a desk.
Our background includes hands-on experience designing, installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and permitting fire alarm systems across a range of project types and jurisdictions. We have pulled wire, programmed panels, stood in front of plan reviewers, and walked systems through final inspection. That experience is the foundation of every drawing package and every review we produce.
We work with fire alarm contractors, electrical contractors, fire protection firms, design-build teams, property owners, and architects and engineers who need fire alarm design expertise on their projects. We function as a specialist consultant and design resource — not as a vendor.
"We design systems the way they get built — accounting for conduit runs, device spacing, panel locations, and field conditions that never show up on the architect's drawings."
Mile High Fire ProtectionTo be clear about our scope of work:
We design. We review. We document. We support permitting. That is what we do.
The difference between a fire alarm designer who has only worked at a desk and one who has worked in the field is significant — and it shows up in the drawings. Our qualifications are grounded in direct, hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of fire alarm systems.
Good fire alarm design is not about producing drawings that satisfy a checklist. It is about producing documentation that supports a successful installation, a clean permit, and a system that works the way it is supposed to.
Every drawing we produce is reviewed with installation in mind. Device locations account for mounting constraints. Circuit layouts account for wire runs. Panel locations account for conduit access. We do not produce drawings that require the installer to figure out how to make them work.
We know what AHJs look for in a fire alarm permit package because we have submitted to them. Our drawing packages are organized, complete, and formatted to minimize plan review comments. When corrections do come back, we handle them.
NFPA 72 is the governing standard, but it is not the only consideration. Local amendments, AHJ interpretations, and project-specific conditions all affect what a compliant design looks like. We apply the code accurately — and we know when to ask the AHJ before we draw.
We communicate the way contractors and project teams need us to: directly, on schedule, and without unnecessary back-and-forth. You get a clear scope, a realistic timeline, and a point of contact who knows your project. No account managers, no ticket systems.
We do not have preferred equipment lines or manufacturer relationships that influence our designs. We work with the panel and devices you are using. If you need guidance on equipment selection, we provide it based on the project requirements — not on what we prefer to draw.
A permit drawing is not just a floor plan with devices on it. It is a complete package: riser diagram, calculations, sequence of operations, notes, and cut sheets. We produce complete packages because incomplete packages get rejected.
Our clients are contractors, fire protection firms, and project teams who need fire alarm design expertise on their projects. We serve as a specialist consultant and design resource — not as a general contractor or installation firm.
Specialty contractors who install and service fire alarm systems and need permit drawings, calculations, and submittal packages to support their projects. We handle the design work so you can focus on the installation.
Electrical contractors who perform fire alarm work as part of a broader electrical scope. We provide the fire alarm-specific design expertise and permit documentation that complements your electrical capabilities.
Fire protection companies that need fire alarm design support, overflow drafting capacity, or independent review services on projects where an outside perspective is required or preferred.
Contractors and project teams responsible for both the design and installation of fire alarm systems. We engage early in preconstruction to support estimating, equipment selection, and permit drawing development.
Owners and developers who need fire alarm consulting, independent design review, or third-party certification services — independent of the installing contractor and separate from the project's design team.
Design professionals who need fire alarm design support, specification review, or code consultation to support their project documentation and coordination with the AHJ and the installing contractor.
Before we start any work, you receive a written scope of work that describes exactly what we will deliver and when. No ambiguity about what is included, no surprises about what is not. If the scope changes, we discuss it before it affects the timeline or cost.
You communicate directly with the person doing the work. There are no account managers or project coordinators between you and the designer. When you have a question, you get an answer from someone who knows your project.
You receive draft drawings for review before the final package is delivered. This is your opportunity to verify device locations, confirm equipment, and incorporate any field knowledge that affects the design. We incorporate your feedback before the package goes to the AHJ.
Our involvement does not end when we deliver the drawings. If the AHJ issues plan review corrections, we prepare the written response and revised drawings for you to resubmit. We stay with the project until the permit is issued. You do not pay extra for resubmittals on corrections to our work.
Your project information, client relationships, and business details are confidential. We do not discuss your projects with other clients, we do not use your project information for marketing purposes, and we do not contact your clients directly without your authorization.
