Learn moreMile High Fire Protection serves contractors, fire protection firms, and project teams who need fire alarm design expertise without maintaining a full-time in-house design staff.
Specialty contractors who install and service fire alarm systems. We provide permit drawings, calculations, and submittal packages — and function as overflow design capacity when your in-house team is at capacity.
Electrical contractors who perform fire alarm work as part of a broader electrical scope. We provide the fire alarm-specific design expertise and permit documentation that complements your electrical capabilities.
Fire protection companies that need fire alarm design support, overflow drafting capacity, or independent review services on projects where an outside perspective is required.
Contractors and project teams responsible for both the design and installation of fire alarm systems. We engage early in preconstruction to support estimating, equipment selection, and permit drawing development.
Owners and developers who need fire alarm consulting, independent design review, or third-party certification services on their projects — independent of the installing contractor.
Design professionals who need fire alarm design support, specification review, or code consultation to support their project documentation and coordination with the AHJ.
Our work product is tangible, documented, and permit-ready. Below are the deliverables typically included in our design and review engagements.
Most fire alarm design firms have never installed a device, pulled a wire, or stood in front of an AHJ. We have. That experience shapes every drawing we produce and every review we conduct.
We design systems the way they get installed — accounting for conduit runs, device spacing, panel locations, and field conditions. No drawings that look good on paper but fall apart in the field.
Every drawing package is built around what the AHJ needs to approve it. We know what plan reviewers look for and we include it — the first time.
Our design review services are conducted independently of the installing contractor. You receive an objective, code-based assessment — not a rubber stamp.
You get the technical expertise of an in-house design team without the cost of carrying one. We function as an extension of your operation — available when you need us, not billing when you don't.
Battery and voltage drop calculations are documented, traceable, and formatted for plan review. Every number is supported and included in every permit package.
When plan review comments come back, we prepare the written response, revise the drawings, and assemble the resubmittal package. You submit it — we do the technical work to get it ready.
Mile High Fire Protection is a fire alarm design and consulting firm. We are not a monitoring company, an inspection service, or a fire alarm installation contractor. We provide fire alarm system design, permit documentation, independent design review, and fire protection consulting — and that focus is intentional.
Our background includes hands-on experience designing, installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and permitting fire alarm systems across a range of project types and jurisdictions. That experience is the foundation of every drawing package and every review we produce.
About the Firm"You're working with professionals who understand how fire alarm systems are built, not just how they're drawn."
Mile High Fire ProtectionYou provide floor plans, project address, AHJ jurisdiction, equipment selection, and applicable specifications. The more complete the information, the faster we can turn it around.
We develop the initial design — device layouts, riser diagram, calculations, and documentation — and deliver a draft package for your review.
You review the draft, verify device locations, confirm equipment, and provide any field knowledge that affects the design. We incorporate your feedback before finalizing.
We deliver the complete, permit-ready drawing package. If the AHJ issues plan review corrections, we prepare the written response and revised drawings for resubmittal.
You submit the fire alarm design package — drawings, calculations, specifications, and any relevant project documentation — for independent review.
We conduct a thorough review of the design package against NFPA 72, applicable local amendments, and project specifications. Each element is evaluated independently.
We deliver a written review letter identifying any deficiencies, code conflicts, or documentation gaps — with supporting code references for each item.
After corrections are made, we review the revised package to confirm all identified items have been addressed.
Where the scope and project requirements call for it, we provide certification documentation confirming the design package meets applicable code requirements.
We primarily serve contractors and project teams in Colorado. We can support projects outside Colorado when permitting requirements, jurisdictional requirements, and required credentials are clearly defined. Contact us with your project location and we'll confirm whether we can support it.
Turnaround depends on project size and complexity. Small to mid-size commercial projects typically range from 5 to 10 business days from receipt of complete project information. Larger or more complex projects take longer. We provide a specific timeline with every proposal so you can plan your submission accordingly.
Both. We can design around your preferred panel and device line, or we can recommend equipment based on the project requirements. If you have an existing relationship with a manufacturer or distributor, we'll work with what you're using. If you need guidance on equipment selection, we can help with that as well.
Plan review corrections are a normal part of the permitting process. When you receive plan review comments, send them to us. We prepare the written technical response addressing each item with supporting code references, revise the drawings as needed, and assemble the resubmittal package. You submit it to the AHJ. We stay with the project until the permit is issued.
Independent design review is a technical evaluation of a fire alarm design package conducted by a party separate from the designer. We review the drawings, calculations, and documentation against NFPA 72 and applicable local requirements, identify any deficiencies or code conflicts, and issue a written review letter. This service is used by owners, project managers, and contractors who need an objective assessment of a design before it goes to the AHJ or before installation begins.
Engineer-of-record stamping requirements vary by jurisdiction. Some AHJs require a licensed PE stamp on fire alarm drawings; many do not. We will advise you on the stamping requirements for your specific jurisdiction and can coordinate with a licensed engineer when required. Contact us with your project location for specifics. Mile High Fire Protection does not represent itself as the engineer of record unless specifically stated in writing.
Yes. Renovation and expansion projects are a significant part of what we do. Provide us with the existing system drawings, the panel model, and the scope of the expansion. We'll design the addition to integrate with the existing system and produce permit drawings for the new work.
